HEA stretching the bonds of credulity past the breaking point

This novella is a below par effort for Ms. Calmes... HEA is something I look for in these reads... however, this short reads difficulties consisted of Vince's expulsion by his family when he told them he was gay was seamless... he was welcomed in to a loving and generous home instantly... and the way the Pro bound college quarterback falls for him really stretches the bonds of credulity past the breaking point.

Undeveloped Characters and Relationship. Disappointing

Compared to the other Mary Calmes' books I've read, this one was quite disappointing. There is really no character development or even a reason why these two guys are in a relationship other than sex.
The footballer, Carson, claims to have been watching Vince for over a year. He admits that he only wants to have sex to see what it is like.
Vince has the same type of starstruck admiration for Carson that everyone else on campus has. Other than wanting to bonk the star quarterback, Vince really does not know or really care about Carson. Even worse in the story, there is actually NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING, that shows how Vince gets to know Carson before the story ends and they declare their all dying love. I mean, they meet, talk a bit, kiss, meet again, have sex, Carson runs away, Carson does not communicate to Vince, Carson gets hurt, Vince runs to be with Carson, the end. Huh?
Why does Carson want to be with Vince? Other than Vince being an open and visible homosexual, there is nothing that suggests why Carson claims he is suddenly in love.
And, how does Vince go from being starstruck to suddenly jumping on a plane to follow after Vince.
This was almost awful. Too incomplete. No character development. No relationship develop or reason why these two men are attracted to each other or why they WOULD be attracted to each other. Vince could have easily been any other homosexual. Carson could have been any other well known athlete.
I expect more from Mary Calmes. Her character development is usually amazing. You can feel and understand why the characters get together. You KNOW who the characters are, their quirks, desires, and wants. Here, nothing.
Disappointed. I'd suggest folks read the short description and save your money. I rated this *** despite being disappointed because if the story had been longer and fuller, it could have been good. Okay, I admit it. 1 star (*) is solely for Mary Calmes as an author. For this book, I'd give it 2 stars (**), but I hated to do that because I like Mary Calmes' so much. ~sigh~

Some new features

I keep grading Mary Calmes' books three stars, but let me stress again - I buy every book of hers, so I guess it is enough for me to like it. The reason why I bothered to review this one (bothered because I would usually want to write the same review on every book of hers, I know what I am getting, so more often than not I will not review them) is because I actually found some differences that I really liked in comparison to a lot of her stories. I liked that she toned down "everybody around the narrator falls in love with him the moment they see him" theme. It is still there to a certain degree IMO, but as far as I am concerned not nearly as strong as in quite a few of her stories. I also liked that she tried to give the narrator some real character flaw - key word *tried*, but at least I thought this one was a genuine attempt, not trying to make something awesome a character flaw.
Of course as often in her stories, this is the case of Super! Super! Instant! Love and if that bothers you, definitely stay away. After couple days of knowing each other and what week of being apart they are proceeding with super speed to I guess monogamy forever?
And I will still buy the next one.
