Well Written and Wildly Entertaining

This book is a wild ride fueled by psychological and sexual obsession, and it's several steps above the norm. It’s larger than life, bold and daring, pushing the boundaries in the erotic thriller genre just as it pushes the boundaries of the lead characters.
The narrative is told in alternating first person accounts, which means we truly get inside the heads and emotions of Alexander and Elena, both of whom know themselves very well and are detailed observers, so that builds connections for readers. The author does an incredible job of keeping the voices of the two characters distinct. Alexander is hard, discerning and commanding, while Elena knows that submission and the ability to forgive is a sign of strength. Their interactions are smart and it's easy to understand the hooks they place into each other. The sex scenes are intense and perfectly executed, as are the other highly eroticized, luxury experiences.
It's the pacing that carries the whole novel well, building to a fever pitch place of no return. There's a lot to enjoy in this dense story of pain, replenishment, captivity, submission and the ultimate intrigue of obsession.

Dark, gritty, and utterly absorbing

"Shades of Obsession" proved to be dark, gritty, and utterly absorbing. Alexander Turner is an arrogant, selfish man with a ruthless streak a mile long and a penchant for coffee, fashion, and S&M. Elena Anderson is an innocent teenage girl, the proverbial good girl but with a not so great boyfriend. Relationships change, people grow up, but the obsession Alexander has for Elena is all encompassing and it's his intention that one day she will share a similar obsession for him. It's Boston and WASPs and wealth and seduction, written with a skillful hand in a way that draws you in and doesn't let go. The characters are complex and their lives extend far beyond the bedroom (or playroom if you will), which makes them all the more interesting. Best of all Alexander and Elena share a chemistry that is over the top hot and I'm eager to see what comes next.
